OUR
APPROACH

At Acorn & Oak, we know that children are intrinsic learners, eager to soak up everything they experience. It's my job as the childcare provider to facilitate experiences that will foster growth, build background knowledge, and hone oral language and numeracy skills.

We begin our day with breakfast and circle time: an opportunity to socalize, practice oral language, and foster gross and fine motor skills. We spend a large portion of our day outside whenever possible, engaging in a mix of nature-based free-play and intentionally curated activities that develop the building blocks of literacy and numeracy. We eat lunch together, followed by a quiet/nap time. In the early afternoon, we get messy engaging in creative/artistic activities, followed by more free-play either inside or outside.

Our activities draw from Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio-Emilia philosophies, focusing on a whole-child approach and developing empathy, independence, and life skills. Our discipline approach is based in the gentle-parenting philosophy.

At Acorn & Oak, we value nature and the environment. We strive to cook with as many organic ingredients as possible. Any meat-based meals are cooked with meats from ethically-sourced farms. We cook with seasonally-appropriate ingredients, and endeavor to provide the healthiest, tastiest meals possible, and weekly menus are provided.
